    The interview stage is extremely important since it is your first physical interaction with the employer, and most important factor in determining your employment. Preparation for the interview is very essential, as well your presentation during the interview. Remember, first impressions are lasting and you should aim to leave a very good one on potential employers.

    Preparation
    • Learn about the organization
    • Review your qualifications for the job
    • Be ready to briefly describe your experience, showing how it relates it the job
    • Be prepared to provide evidence of your skills
    • Prepare answers to broad questions, such as "Why should we hire you?" "Where do you see yourself in the next five years?" "What are your strengths and weaknesses?" “What do you hope to learn from this job?”
    • Practice an interview with a friend, family member or in front of the mirror

    Personal Appearance
    • Look presentable and proper
    • Dress appropriately
    • Do not smoke or chew gum

    The Interview
    • Be early
    • Learn the name of your interviewer and greet him or her with a firm handshake (if appropriate culturally)
    • Use polite manners with everyone you meet
    • Relax and be confident
    • Use proper English — avoid slang/colloquial words
    • Be cooperative and enthusiastic, and use body language to show interest — use eye contact and avoid fidgeting
    • Ask questions about the position and the organization, but avoid questions whose answers are available on the company website
    • Also avoid asking questions about salary and benefits unless a job offer is made
    • Thank the interviewer when you leave and shake hands (if appropriate culturally)
    • Send a short thank you note after the interview

    Information to bring to an interview
    • Resume or application: Although you may have sent your resume already, keep a copy handy
    • References: Ask your referee before using him/her as a reference. Make sure that they will give you a good reference.
    • Transcripts and certificates: Employers may require an official copy of transcripts
