    This course will provide students with a clear understanding of how language varies across different contexts. It will offer students different opportunities to practice the language, improve their communication skills and enhance their confidence. Activities in this course are designed to increase students’ self-reliance.

    Course Contents
    • Listening to a range of texts; distinguishing between main and supporting ideas; understanding abstract concepts
    • Writing narrative, descriptive texts
    • Speaking about general topics, personal experiences and world affairs
    • Reading a variety of texts to extract information, make inferences and summarize
    • Grammar, vocabulary, spellings, punctuation
    • Public Speech
    • Response handling
    • Creative writing
    • Poetry writing
    • Business communication (emails)
    Course Outcomes
    • Enhanced ability to speak English confidently in different situations and contexts
    • Appropriately use English language across different levels of complexity
    • Improved listening, speaking and writing skills in general and academic contexts
